Acupuncture is a complementary therapy which uses specialist acupuncture needles which are placed in specific points on the body to relieve pain. The needles are extremely thin and therefore acupuncture treatment causes minimal discomfort to the patient; most patients do not even feel the needles being inserted.

Research suggests that the acupuncture needles stimulate nerve endings to stimulate the body’s natural healing response and alter the way your brain responds to pain.
Acupuncture is effective for controlling pain and can be used to treat a range of conditions including back and neck pain, knee pain and shoulder pain.

During treatment up to 12 needles are normally inserted into your skin using specific acupuncture points related to your pain. The needles are normally left in place for up to 20 minutes. The typical number of sessions for a course of acupuncture treatment is between 5 and 8, although the number of sessions required depends on your pain and clinical presentation.
